READINGS FOR today 3rd Sunday after Pentecost/Apostles Bartholomew & Barnabus

Epistle: Romans 5:1-10 Gospel: St. Matthew 6:22-33

Third Sunday After PentEcost

If therefore thine eye be single thy whole body shall be full of light. But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. Here the mind is called the eye, and the entire composition of the soul is called the body. Thus, when the mind is simple then it is light in the soul; when the mind is evil, then it is dark in the soul. What are a simple mind and an evil mind? A simple mind is one which accepts the word of God as is written, and is convinced beyond a doubt that all is indeed as is written. It has no deceit, no wavering, or hesitation. An evil mind is one which approaches the word of God with slyness, artful disputing, and questioning. It cannot directly believe. It has only wavering, confusion, questions without answers; everything is out of place with it, and it walks in the dark, fumbling its way. A simple mind sees everything clearly: every thing in it has a definite character, determined by the word of God. That is why every thing in it has its place, and it knows exactly how to behave with relation to things—it walks along open, visible roads, with complete assurance that they lead to the true goal.

NEDELJA TPEĆA PO DUHOVIMA

Ako oko tvoje bude zdravo, sve će telo tvoje svetlo biti. Ako li oko tvoje bude kvarno, sve će telo tamno biti (Mt.6,22-23).

READINGS FOR today 2nd Sunday after Pentecost/St. Metrophanes

Epistle: Romans 2:10-16 Gospel: St. Matthew 4:18-23

Second Sunday After Pentecost

The Lord called Peter and Andrew, and immediately, leaving all, they followed Him. He called James and John, and they also immediately left all and followed the Lord. Why did they follow Him so quickly and willingly? Because they saw something better. Such is the law that we have in our soul, that once it has tasted and known what is better, it is repulsed by what is worse and abandons it. Here is accomplished the same thing that later the Lord described in His parable about the treasure hid in a field, and about the pearl of great price. The treasure and the pearl are faith in the Lord and communion with Him according to the strength of faith. We have already been declared possessors of this in baptism. Why do we value this treasure so little, and so exchange it for barren insignificance? Because we were not brought up to cultivate a taste for this treasure, and it becomes foreign to our heart. Our heart does not know this better thing. It only knows that there is the bad, the very bad, and the not so bad, and bases its outlook upon this assessment. Here is the entire reason why the Lord calls some and they come; but we, the chosen ones, run from Him.

READINGS FOR today 1st Sunday after Pentecost/All Sainst

Epistle: Hebrews 11:33-12:2 Gospel: St. Matthew 10:32-33, 37-38 & 19:27-30
Reader: Adam Munich

SUNDAY OF ALL THE SAINTS

The Holy Church commemorates Saints every day. But because there have been God-pleasers who struggled in obscurity and were not revealed to the Holy Church, the Church has set a day on which we praise all those who have pleased God throughout the ages, that they all might be glorified by the Church. The Church instituted this commemoration immediately after the descent of the Holy Spirit, because all saints have been made and are being made saints by the grace of the Holy Spirit. The grace of the Holy Spirit brings repentance and the forgiveness of sins; it leads one into battle with the passions and lusts, and crowns this labor with purity and passionlessness. And thus a new creature appears, fit for a new heaven and new earth. Let us be zealous to follow the saints of God. Today’s Gospel reading teaches us how to do this: it demands fearless confession of faith in the Lord, particular love toward Him, raising the cross of self-denial, and heartfelt renunciation of everything. Let us place a beginning according to these instructions.

NEDELJA SVIH SVETIH

Blagodat Svetoga Duha donosi pokajanje i otpuštenje grehova, uvodi u borbu sa strastima i pohotama i podvig venčava čistotom i bestrasnošću.

FROM OUR NATIONAL STEWARDSHIP COMMITTEE: In the Scripture reading (Romans 12:6), we learn that “Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, let us use them”. God has provided each one of us with many gifts, many skills and many opportunities. As each one of us is different – our height, the color of our hair, our facial features – each one of us is unique with the characteristics that God has given us – some to be managers, some to be teachers, some to be craftsmen, some to focus on preparing meals while others to care for the sick – but what God asks us to do as Stewards is to give freely of the Talents that we have, regardless of what our vocation is. With every opportunity, no matter how great or small, we can make a large impact on our parish. Our effort should always focus on Equal Sacrifice and not Equal Giving.

PLEASE KEEP THE FOLLOWING SOLDIERS IN YOUR PRAYERS: Thomas Vukcevic; Benjamin Pappas; Michael Rapasky; Brady Sexton, Jeffrey Izo, Michael Greenwood, James Koch, Jacob Monnin, Adam Paich, John Stanz, Peter Mrvos, Michael Antecki, Matthew Ross. These soldiers are remembered at the Proskomedia (Service of Preparation) before every Divine Liturgy. June 3, 2012 — Sunday Bulletin

Volume 48; Number 23 June 3, 2012

READINGS FOR today Pentecost (Duhovi)/Trinity Sunday
Epistle: Acts 2:1-11 Gospel: St. John 7:37-52, 8:1-2

THE SUNDAY OF HOLY PENTECOST.

God’s plan for our salvation is accomplished! The operation of all the Persons of the Most Holy Trinity have now come into effect to accomplish it. What God the Father has willed, the Son of God fulfilled in Himself, and the Holy Spirit has now descended in order to impart it to the faithful. For our salvation is according to the foreknowledge of God the Father, through sanctification of the Spirit, unto obedience and sprinkling of the Blood of Jesus Christ (I Pet. 1:2). For this sake we are baptized in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Ghost, obliged, to observe all things whatsoever I have commanded you (Matt. 28:19–20). Those who do not confess the Most Holy Trinity cannot participate in the saving action of Its Persons and thus receive salvation. Glory to the Father and to the Son and to the Holy Spirit, the Trinity one in essence and undivided, granting us confession of Itself! “O Father Almighty, and Word, and Spirit, one nature united in three Persons, transcendent and extremely divine! Into Thee have we been baptized, and Thee shall we bless throughout all ages.”

NEDELЈA SVETE PEDESETNICE

“Oče Svedržitelju, Slove i Duše, u trima Ipostasima presuštastveno i prebožanstveno sjedinjavajuće jestastvo, u Tebe se krstismo i Tebe blagosiljamo u sve vekove”.
